Using Components to Illustrate a Children’s Book

I am using my design systems experience to help my grandpa illustrate his fourth children’s book. I have selected and reused shapes, patterns, and ideas from his previous 3 books to digitally illustrate his fourth one.

Book 1: What is a Hemisemidemiquaver?
Book 2: What in the World is a Palindrome?
Book 3: What is a Zinjanthropus?
Book 4: House Cleaning Can Be Such Fun! (work in progress)

Right now I am color blocking illustrations and finding reusable patterns. I have created a textured colored palette with colored pencils to allow new digital additions to combine easily with the reused artwork.

The bookshelf from book #3: I covered up the hiding face in the shelf and added a more disheveled look. The open book on the floor: I included it among the books strewn across the floor.

The child and the dog from book #1: I flipped the object, added a book to the child’s hand, and am in the process of adding hair for a young girl.
